As we all know, parts should be sticked to the build platform when finished in bottom-up SLA/DLP/LCD 3D printing. If there are no parts or just fragmentary ones on the build platform, you should check your issues before restarting. Sticking to FEP vat is one of the most common printing problems in bottom-up SLA/DLP/LCD 3D printing. In order to solve sticking problem, we need to understand what factors will lead to parts sticking to FEP vat.

The first thing to make sure is that in slicing software, the parts must be attached to the build platform, not suspended. You must pay more attention to some models that are suspended in some positions which may cause the solidified layer to stick on the FEP vat.

Also if the build platform is not cleaned as there are too much oil or impurities on it, or the build platform is worn, it will lead to the reduction of the adhesion. Consequently, the solidified layer may stick on the FEP film.

The bottom exposure time is recommended to be at least 8-12 times the normal exposure time. Only in this way can any possible gaps between the build platform and the FEP vat be fully cured so that the first layer is firmly attached to the build platform. If the bottom/raft cant stick to the build platform, you need to increase the bottom exposure time. Generally, the longer the bottom layer is exposed, the more firmly the bottom/raft sticks to the build platform.

Lifting speed refers to the lifting speed of the build platdform from the vat which can also be understood as the peeling speed. If the lifting speed is too fast, the part may be pulled down to the FEP vat due to the peel force/separation force.

FEP refers to the thin film which is not sticky or slightly sticky after contact with the specific material under limited conditions. As a result, the parts will be separated from the FEP vat and stick to the build platform. But if the Fep is worn or too loose or too tight, it may affect the peel force, resulting in the sticking problem.

The editing of the part itself, such as improper placement of the angle, hollowing, punching, etc. may result in excessive peel force/separation force, which may also lead to sticking.

As shown above, due to the different placement, the contact area between the square and the FEP is also different. The larger the contact area, the greater the drawing force/release force. So the square on the left is more likely to stick to FEP vat.

In addition, the different punching positions of the hollowing part will cause the problem of vacuum seal drawing. As shown below, the left hollowed cylinder is perforated at the lower end, which can solve the sealing problem well. The perforating position of the right hollowed cylinder is at the upper end. Although it is convenient to let the resin escape after printing, the whole printing process is in a sealed environment. The drawing force/release force is very strong in a sealed environment which can easily cause the parts to be pulled down.
